Sid City Social Club Mini Presentations

The Sid City Social Club boasts a wealth of knowledge about countless topics. Everyone is amazing at and excited about something, and we want to know more! These mini presentations are your opportunity to share your knowledge with the Sid City Social Club.

What are mini presentations? How is it different than signing up for a chat with Sid?

 

A mini presentation is an educational segment you lead on a topic of your choice. You will be teaching everyone in the social club meeting (including Sid) about the topic. He will undoubtedly have questions, but other members of the social club will be encouraged to ask you questions as well.

 

What kinds of topics do you want? Is anything off-limits?

 

The options are limitless! If you can present on a topic credibly, then it is eligible for consideration.

 

How long should my presentation be?

 

Ideally, your presentation will consist of a slideshow, talk, or demo that lasts 5-7 minutes. We’ll reserve another 5-7 minutes after the presentation for Q&A with Sid and the social club members.

 

What if I have a slide show, video clips, or photos?

 

For security reasons, Mel is the only one who can screenshare during social club meetings.

 

Please send a bullet point outline of your presentation to Mel along with any photos, slides, clips, etc. with notes as to where in your presentation you would like these to be shown.

 

What program will you be using?

 

Zoom, of course! Your presentation will be part of a regularly-scheduled Sid City Social Club meeting, so please make sure to check your mic and video (if you’d like to be on camera) before signing into the call.

To Do List for a Successful Presentation

  • Choose a topic you have authentic, credible knowledge about.
  • Pare down your topic to 1 or 2 main ideas. (Remember, you only have 5-7 minutes!)
  • Choose or create visual aids - images, charts, graphs, etc. - to support your main ideas.
  • Create an outline or a script for your talk.
  • Practice your presentation on camera. Be sure to time yourself!
  • Prepare a list of anticipated questions and your answers. Practice giving the answers.
  • Create a list of additional resources that can be shared after your presentation.
  • Sign up to give your presentation during an upcoming social club meeting.
  • Send your outline and slideshow or visual aids to Mel.
