Alexander Siddig Stars in ‘Jude & The Jinn’
Filming has wrapped on Alexander Siddig’s latest project, Jude & the Jinn, Screen Daily announced today. The movie was written, produced, and directed by Rolla Tahir, an independent filmmaker based in Toronto.
Jude & the Jinn is the magical realist tale of Jude, a thirty-something Nubian woman caught in what can only be described as bureaucratic hell. Having immigrated to study in Canada, joining her father who moved there a few years prior as a refugee in search of a better life, they are both currently without status, waddling through life in transience. Her father works as a cleaner, while she has many side gigs (tutoring English, waitressing, babysitting) to earn a living ‘under the table’. When her father is deported, Jude falls into a depression until she meets and befriends a mysterious jinn, played by Siddig.
Jinn, also called djinn or genie, are invisible creatures originating in early Arabic folklore. Traditionally, jinn are neutral or morally ambiguous entities that rarely meddle in human affairs. We’ll have to see what Tahir’s take on the jinn is in Jude & the Jinn.
Newcomer Azza Abarro stars as Jude and Deena Nina, Emmanuel Kabongo, and Hudson Wurster co-star.
Jude & the Jinn was one of 16 feature projects from emerging filmmakers selected for Telefilm’s Talent to Watch program for 2022-2023.
Siddig will spend the rest of the summer filming the remainder of Foundation season 3 which was put on hold by the SAG-AFTRA strike last summer and fall.
