Calling all graphics gurus! The 2007 SidCity.net calendar is on the horizon and we're looking for work by SidCitizens to feature in the new edition. Interested? Here are the particulars:

Submission Deadline: Sunday, November 5, 2006
Submission Protocol: Post your entry here, no wider than 600px, by the deadline. You may include a link to the larger size if you'd like.
Dimensions: 2300x1800 pixels, 200dpi
Format: .jpg or .png
Content: Well, Sid, of course. Because of copyright limitations, photos of Sid from his movie and television roles are off limits, as are photos from magazines or professional photo shoots. We realize that this means a healthy chunk of the really good photos are unusable, but since this will be an item that we're selling, we have to be careful about copyrights. However, other photos are acceptable, and any of his quotes from interviews can be used. The quality of the printing is very good, so feel free to be as complex or as spare as you wish.
Voting: We will hold an open vote to choose the winners from Monday, November 6-Sunday, November 12, 2006.
Prize: Fame and fortune! Well, sort of. Your entry will be published in the 2006 SidCity.net Calendar and you'll receive your very own copy of the calendar.

I'm probably just doing one for fun. (there are too many real "graphics gurus" on the board )
But I wanted to ask if we are allowed to use such pics as the red-carpet/press conference pics (from Berlin etc.). I'm not sure but they are probably too official, as well as pics from magazines...?

So far, the stipulations in the Content section above are all I can approve. I'm working on how to get permission to use some of the professional photos that are in the Gallery, but until that happens, please avoid using them.

This is a great idea that I most definitely hope to be able to be apart of . My question then is , if we cannot use the publicity shots and such, mentioned afore hand, may we use pics that were taken by fans, from the conventions or other such appearances of Sid? There were some of those in the gallery as well, I believe.
And I was also wondering if using a pic, that was taboo, as a referrance so that I could draw him myself, was off limits too?

As someone who's convention photos are up at the gallery I would like to pass on my permission to use the ones I took.

We do have permission from the fans whose photos are in the Gallery to use those photos for the calendar, so knock yourselves out. As for original drawings based on other photos, I was hoping someone would come up with that idea! Keep in mind, though, that your drawing has to be an original...simply altering a photo to look like a drawing does not excuse us from copyright laws.

Wonderfull! I have already begun then!!! When I get it finished I may need help with submitting it in the size of 600px but I do have the image set to the other proper size settings. But if you were to walk me through it I am sure I will get the hang of it in no time. Oh, and though I cannot find my original "scruffy alternate Julian" pic right now, I am using a reference of "him" for one of the pics! *wink*

When you mean submitting it here, do you mean posting it in this thread? If not, do we email you them instead? I kind of have one whipped up already just after reading the first post. It happens to be one that I paintshopped of Sid from a picture my husband took of him and me at the Meadowlands 2001 con. I then add him to a picture we took in Mass. that I thought would be a nice scenic pic. Sid comes out a little fuzzy though.

If I remember this right, then we have posted it here in the thread (last year).

Looking forward to see some of your calendar suggestions.

Nele, use the Attachment feature when you have your Post window open.

Here is my suggestion for one calendered:

A collage made out of 'private' pictures of Sid and his fans. Someone could collect the photos of the members who want to share photos and create a collage.

Well, that´s what I did, but I got no result.
The pictures weren´t attached at the post.

Ok, I managed to upload the pics somewhere.
I hope you can see them.
By clicking on them a new window will open and it automatically starts a slide show. Just click on pause and it will stop. If you click on "Zurück" you go one back and on "Vor" one forward.
But as they are just two pictures it shouldn´t be so difficult =)

Could someone explain to me what "The Sims" is/are?

And another question: Can I put Sids head from one pic on the rest of Sid from another pic? Or is that too much manipulation?

Yeah, that would be too much manipulation.

The Sim is a video game wherein you create characters and give them jobs, houses, relationships, etc. and try to make them grow and live and stuff.

Okay, the violent Sid-beheading was not necessary. Since my head was already spinning from all the penguins, I tried with another, bigger animal. (I was tempted to do an elephant but I had no good pics.)

Those are all nice you all. Great job!

O.K. here are mine. The first is a painting I did and thanks goes to Flip for uploading the picture that gave me this idea. (I propose it for November, and please forgive me everyone, which suffer from Aracnophobia. ) The second one is my older drawing of Sid with some color added.

Beautiful work Andrea! The astrology concept came out really nice. The Syriana drawing is well done too. You really captured his furrowed brow, something I know is difficult to do. I am currently working on a pencil drawing of Sid from one of the premieres he attended. I find his mouth to be even more difficult than his eyes to get right.
I'm glad to see a young person pursuing her art and creativity. I only began painting and drawing seriously last year and I do regret not beginning sooner. There's no telling how far I might have come if I had started years ago.
So be encouraged, your spirit and talent are showing through!

P.S.- Artist to artist...I have an idea for a holiday gift for Sid. I want to try to do a painted reproduction of "The Annunciation", the part of the Nativity story where the angel speaks to Mary. I was thinking of doing it with Sid's face as the angel Gabriel. If you like the idea, maybe between the two of us we can produce something really beautiful that can be used as a card from all of us at Sidcity or maybe send him the actual painting(s). I know that Sid is Muslim, but the angel Gabriel is a universal figure in all 3 of the major world religions, so I think he will appreciate it more than say a winter scene or (Lord forbid) a Santa card!
