The film will also include an optional text commentary track called The Engineer's Guide, along with story notes.

Discs Three and Four will together contain a feature-length, 6-part documentary called The Path to Redemption. It breaks down as follows, starting on Disc Three: Part I - Development (the Good Intentions featurette, a "Tripoli" text overview and image gallery, complete text of the first draft of the screenplay by William Monahan, a "story notes" text and image gallery, and a gallery of location scout images), Part II - Pre-Production (the Faith and Courage featurette, screen test video with commentary, cast rehearsal video, the Costume & Weapon Design featurette, and text and image galleries covering production design, conceptual art and costumes), Part III - Production: Spain (The Pilgrimage Begins featurette, the Creative Accuracy: The Scholars Speak featurette, storyboard comparisons via multi-angle video & images, and photo galleries featuring text and images).

TODAY IS THE DAY!

Those of us in the US get the Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven today! But I'll let you in on a little secret - my copy arrived early. wink.gif I've watched it and really is worth the raves that the reviewers are giving it. Sid only has a few extra seconds added to his role, but the extra Balian and Sybilla stuff makes the movie so, so, so much better.

Sound interesting.
I missed something in the end ... (I don´t know what but there was something missing).
Maybe I´ll borrow the DVD in a video library before I buy the extendet version (30€ are much money for a DVD).

Amazon has notified me that my copy has shipped. ETA will be May 26th.

Naddel, there is an entire storyline missing for Sybilla in the theatrical version that is restored in the director's cut. It makes her character much more relateable and more interesting. Balian also benefits from additional character development. It's amazing how much better the director's cut is than the theatrical version.

I got my copy yesterday. It was great, this version is far better and now everything makes more sense. I love the extra features, but there is so much to watch that I'll have to see the rest later. From what I have seen, I now want to visit Spain even more (hopefully, sometime soon.)

I received my copy this evening. If it had been waiting for me when I got home from work, I'd have watched the director's cut of the movie right away. However, UPS didn't drop it off until my evening was half over. I decided it was too late to start a long movie so I watched some of the extra features instead. I enjoy learning about film making. I particularly love the score of Kingdom of Heaven so it was a treat to watch the composer at work.

I was also impressed with the editor who had to cut two different films at the same time. She spoke about narrative flow and character development. It had to be heart-breaking for her to cut out so much that she felt made the story matter.

When they were talking about casting the Muslim roles, they said of Sid, "Everyone will know him if they look carefully." This is an interesting, though demonstratively false statement. Most people do NOT know who Alexander Siddig is, but I was glad that the people making KoH appreciated that Sid is recognized around the world.

Tomorrow I get to watch the actual film!

I watched most of the extras last night (hoping to see it with the commentary this weekend) and was surprised at how many interview snippets Sid has. He tells a couple of stories about working on the set and has nothing but admiration for everyone from the wardrobe mistress to the extras.

We'll work on getting these snippets pulled off the DVD and put online, but for those who have the DVDs, he shows up at about the 15 minute mark in the Colors of the Crusades (Wardrobe) piece and several times in the Morocco Production segment. Also, the final Deleted Scene (number 15) is between Sid and Ghassan.

That would be great. Thank you in advance. 2thumbs.gif

I just finished watching the extended version and I must say that I totally enjoyed it! I believe that this version of the movie gave more backlog and depth to the performances. I also enjoyed watching more of Mr. Siddig's performance as always.

We got the opportunity to see the relationship among the characters in more sharper contrast, and explore how various events came about without the editing breaks.

I wish this version had been shown in theatres. It probably would have been better received.

Peace.
