Bashir might have been brilliant, but he was NOT tactful. It took real courage for the producers to make him unlikeable at the beginning so he'd have room to grow.

I wasn't being hard on Bashir.

It took real courage for the show's producers to make the heart-throb character less than smooth because the front office at Paramount HATED the fact that Bashir was not immediately popular with SF fans.

I'm not saying anything about Bashir that Sid hasn't said himself. Bashir was not socially adept originally. It's one of the reasons it made so much sense for James Bond to be a fantasy for Bashir. Now THERE was a guy who was smooth.

hehe "Tactless". I'd have said more, "over-eager..." but they gotta save on writing space I guess. Didn't think Bashir was unlikeable either, but I liked that he was immature and naive and not the cliched suave guy that every "hero" is expected to be. Julian, and Connor, and... who else? Some of us just like quirky people!

So glad that I got all the previous seasons before this one, and finally getting to watch this now. (Better late than never.)
Phil's first scene just came on. Hard to read, is right. Wikkid.

I already like the understated bureaucratic battles they show in this, because it really makes me uneasy to watch -- in a good way, I mean. Gotta admit I was a bit "Wuh?" about this first time around -- but then it's not that different to how I felt at the very beginning of previous seasons; they do tend to jump a lot between last/first episodes. Abby and Connor's random kickboxing scene at the beginning... what was that about?

Bit unfair they both got fired for... lack of experience ?? eh??!? Honest to goodness I been deathly curious about these threads, but was avoiding them. Could go on forever; but won't, I swear.

I guess the whole hero worshipping bit will make for an interesting set-up for future episodes.
