Saw the Hobbit last night. I'm watching it and thinking, "Thorin looks really familiar." Then the credits came up. Totally forgot Richard Armitage was in it! It was very good and I'm irritated I have t wait a year to see the rest.

Saw it Wednesday night and must go a second time, just to enjoy it again and have a look for all the details I missed.
And yes, when it was over I would have so much liked to continue .... now, that is something to look forward to for 2013 and 2014. I am not so fond of the 3D thing, but somewhere I read that only with very modern equipment the higher qualitly Jackson used will be visible. (more picuters per second) The song "misty mountians" is in my head ever since and I bought the CD just to learn to sing it. It is a shame Thorin and the Dwarfs sing only two verses, there is more lyrics in the book. |

Saw it on Wednesday (12-12) at the cinema in town. Which was the first day that it came out at our local cinema.
The beginning was quite funny. I like that they included the original quote that started the book: "In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit." :-) Lots of chases and fighting towards the end. Not my "thing", but still pretty cool. The head Orc looked like a fat white Nav'i. It was a really entertaining movie which I guess just confirms the faith I already had in Peter Jackson's ability to deliver two more good ones. Looking forward to the second of them. ~ash. a LINKEY thing -------------------- Transmitte Me Sursum Caledoni

Thanks for the link, Ash - where is the story to the photo?

It was at a one-man show in Wanaka. (He was travelling around NZ to raise money for repairs to the old Theatre Royal in Christchurch.) Some friends from uni. and I hired a car for the day and drove all the way there, (about four hours) then swung by Queenstown on the way back for hamburgers. (Another 2+4 hours driving lol.) The ironic thing was that because I was the oldest of the group I was the only one who could register to drive the car, which meant we couldn't take turns! Tiring day but well worth it.

How do you like 3D movies?
I went to The Hobbit with my niece (12) and her parents, thinking to give her a good time and holiday treat - but she became very motion sick and after the break she did not want to go back because she felt so shaky. She had read the book upon my recommendation and would have liked to see the movie - well, we will finish as soon as the DVD gets out. I myself are not overly fond of 3D, but this settles it: If I have the chance to see a movie in 2D instead 3D, I'll go for it. |

One of the most infamous UK movie critics Mark Kermode hates 3D with a passion. Never wanted to watch a 3D movie specifically because of this issue.

We almost saw it at the IMAX when out with my brother. I'm so glad he didn't want to go. We saw it the next day at our little theater, no 3d. I would have been sick otherwise.

I don't get motion sick in movies any more, but I used to. They didn't have to be 3D movies either. A lightflyer scene in The Empire Strikes Back had my stomach in knots. Closed elevators where you couldn't SEE yourself moving and could only feel the motion similarly affected me.
Because I use mass transit, I read on the bus and lightrail. Long ago, I could only read for a little while on a bus before my stomach began to protest. Gradually, I could read longer and longer. Now it's not a problem and I read on a swaying bus or train about two hours each working day. I think I've cured myself of motion sickness. I mention this because it's possible you'll enjoy 3D some day even if it's not pleasurable for you at this time in your life. Don't assume your physical self will remain the same. Hi Carol,
good to know that there might be a chance to teach your body how to handle motion sickness. I only read in trains and sometimes, when I feel adventurous, in big airplains, but never more than 5 minutes in a car or bus or boat. Although the chance is very good that I'll get motion sick, I can not resist and go for scenic flights in my vaccations as long as the weather looks not too bad. Sometimes I even manage to enjoy half the ride .... the rest of the day may turn out to be quite cheep, no meals needed because of the sideeffects Concerning movies: 3D costs a lot of extra money and I just do not enjoy the "extra" quality. (Except, I have to admit, in Avatar). Glad to know that I am not alone. Just remember "Inception": you can have fantastic visual effects without 3D. |

Much agreement regarding 3D movies! It's okay, but nothing that special, really.
