Leslie McMurty of TTZ interviewed Big Finish head honcho Barnaby Edwards recently, discussing his audio plays of Dr. Who and The Phantom of the Opera. Here’s what Barnaby had to say about working with Sid in Phantom:
What a coup to get Alexander Siddig as the Persian. Was he your first choice?
Absolutely! I’d had a ball with Sid on the Doctor Who audio Sisters of the Flame/The Vengeance of Morbius and I was determined to work with him again. He has such a warm, liquid voice, full of mystery and promise. The Persian is a tremendously enigmatic character in the novel, which may perhaps explain why nearly all adaptations leave him out. You don’t know what he’s about until well over halfway through the story. But I think that he’s a vital presence: he gives the Phantom depth, a past, a meaning.
