The trailer for Miral has been released, and it features a lot of Sid as the father of the titular character. The new film from Julian Schnabel stars Frieda Pinto as a young woman who lives in an orphanage setup in Jerusalem by Hind Husseini in the wake of the 1948 partition of Palestine. Her father (Sid) is still alive, but wants Miral to get an education, so places her in the orphanage. When she becomes embroiled in dangerous political activities as a teenager, their relationship becomes tense. Hiam Abbass, Willem Dafoe, and Vanessa Redgrave also star.
Miral will debut at the Venice Film Festival in September with a rumored U.S. release set for December 3, 2010.

VIDEO: Behind the Scenes of ‘Cairo Time’
October 9, 2009 by Mel

Cairo Time opens in limited release in Canada today and all across Canada on October 16. Check out this making of video that gives a glimpse of what it’s like to film in Cairo with Rubba Nadda, Patricia Clarkson, and Alexander Siddig.
This article also chronicles some of the chaos that went on behind the scenes, including a near disaster:
During one scene, Siddig escorts Clarkson through a busy downtown area as passersby swivel their heads to catch a glimpse of Clarkson, whose long blond locks qualify her as exotic in Egypt (in fact, Clarkson admits that she got used to drawing the attention of male suitors on the street even when they weren’t filming – “I started to wear long skirts eventually,” she says with a laugh).
The script called then for a motorcyclist to interrupt the scene by whizzing by Clarkson. Problem was, the driver got a little closer than he was supposed to and very nearly rammed into the actress.
“That motorcycle really almost hit me,” Clarkson said. “Alexander grabbed me so hard I thought my ribs had shifted, permanently. But he did really save me, and it’s on film.
“It was kind of great. We caught it, and I lived.”
Did she have any words for the reckless stunt driver?
“No,” she said. “‘Cause we got the shot. We all just went home and had a drink.”

The trailer for Cairo Time has been released and it is stunning! Take a look:
In Theatres October 9th – Juliette (Patricia Clarkson), a fashion magazine editor in her 50s, travels to Cairo to meet her husband, Mark (Tom McCamus), a UN official working in Gaza, for a three week vacation. When he is unavoidably delayed, he sends his friend Tareq (Alexander Siddig), who had been his security officer for many years, to escort her throughout the beautiful and exotic city. The last thing anyone expects is that they will fall in love.

Time Names ‘Syriana’ Top 10 CIA Movie
Time Magazine recently posted their Top 10 CIA Movies, and Syriana made the cut. Check out what they have to say about the film and Sid:
With its crosscutting, interconnected story lines, Syriana is essentially Traffic with oil instead of drugs. There’s a direct connection, as writer-director Stephen Gaghan also did the screenplay for Traffic. The two films also share a respect for the audience that translates into complex storytelling that doesn’t over-explain itself, doesn’t wait for you to catch up.
As a faded, chubby CIA agent, George Clooney (the heartthrob went full Method with the weight gain here) gives one of his more nuanced and non-muggy performances. As a grieving businessman, Matt Damon (the guy’s everywhere on this list) can do no wrong. Yet, it’s Alexander Siddig, as the independent, reform minded prince of an unnamed Middle Eastern emirate, who shines with dignity and restraint. Also, look out for Tom McCarthy, who played a weaselly reporter in the final season of The Wire, as a weaselly CIA official.
